Shelter Island Car Service to the Airports and the City
Shelter Island is its own town, between the North Fork and the South Fork in Peconic Bay, reached only by water. The North Ferry runs to Greenport and the South Ferry to North Haven, toward Sag Harbor; Route 114 crosses the island between the two landings. The town includes the Village of Dering Harbor, Shelter Island Heights and the Mashomack Preserve, which covers nearly a third of the island.
Two Ferries
The North Ferry crosses to Greenport and the South Ferry to North Haven, each in a few minutes. The chauffeur drives you aboard and off, and you stay in the car with the bags.
Route 114
Route 114 runs across the island from the North Ferry to the South Ferry, about ten minutes end to end. Most addresses are a few minutes off it.

Which ferry do you use from Shelter Island?
It depends on the destination. For East Hampton Airport, the Hamptons and some routes west, the South Ferry to North Haven and Sag Harbor is usually shorter; for the North Fork, the Greenport train or the Cross Sound Ferry, the North Ferry to Greenport. We choose when we plan the route and include the crossing in the pickup time.
How long is Shelter Island to JFK?
About two and a quarter to two and three quarters hours outside of traffic, including the ferry crossing, then west by Sunrise Highway or the Long Island Expressway and the Van Wyck. LaGuardia is similar. For an early flight the pickup is in the small hours, and on summer Sunday afternoons we add time for the ferry lines.
How far is Shelter Island from a private aviation airport?
East Hampton Airport (HTO) in Wainscott is about 30 to 45 minutes by the South Ferry and Sag Harbor, depending on the line at the landing. Gabreski Airport (FOK), north of Westhampton Beach, is about 50 to 60 minutes. Tell us the landing time and the FBO, and the chauffeur is waiting there.
Do you stay with us on the ferry?
Yes. The chauffeur drives the car onto the ferry and you stay inside with your bags for the crossing, which takes a few minutes. There is no change of car on either side, so an arrival from the airport or the train ends at your door on the island.
Can you arrange cars for a wedding on Shelter Island?
Yes. We plan cars for the couple, the family and the guests, including ferry crossings for anyone staying on the North Fork or in Sag Harbor. Groups travel in Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans or shuttle buses where the route allows. The plan and the price are confirmed in writing before the day.
