Hampton Bays Car Service to the Airports and the City
Hampton Bays is the largest hamlet in the Town of Southampton and the place where the South Fork begins. The Shinnecock Canal links Peconic Bay to Shinnecock Bay at its eastern edge; the Ponquogue Bridge crosses to Dune Road and the Shinnecock Inlet; Sunrise Highway and Montauk Highway both pass through, and the LIRR station sits north of the highway. Everything bound for Southampton and points east crosses the Canal here.
The Canal Is the Choke Point
Sunrise Highway crosses the Shinnecock Canal and becomes County Road 39 toward Southampton. On summer weekday mornings the eastbound trade parade compresses here; Friday afternoons and Sunday afternoons do the same in each direction. Leaving Hampton Bays westbound avoids most of it.

The Hampton Bays LIRR station on Good Ground Road, Main Street (Montauk Highway), the marinas on the Canal and Shinnecock Bay, Ponquogue Beach, and the Dune Road restaurants. For a boat, tell us the marina and the slip.
Airports From the Gateway
FOK 15 to 20 minutes west; ISP in Islip about an hour; JFK and LGA about two hours outside of traffic; EWR about two and a half. HTO in Wainscott is 35 to 45 minutes east, useful when a flight is routed there instead.
Dune Road and the Inlet
The Ponquogue Bridge is the only road onto the Hampton Bays stretch of Dune Road, which runs west toward Quogue and east to the Shinnecock Inlet and the fishing fleet. We come to the house or the restaurant door and add a few minutes on summer weekends when the bridge is slow.

Yes. The station is on the LIRR Montauk Branch, north of Montauk Highway on Good Ground Road. We meet the train at the curb, track the arrival time, and load the luggage. For summer Friday trains we agree a meeting spot ahead of time.
How long is Hampton Bays to JFK?
About two hours outside of traffic, straight onto Sunrise Highway and west to the Southern State or Long Island Expressway, then the Van Wyck. Because Hampton Bays is west of the Canal, you skip the slowest stretch. For a 7 a.m. flight we collect around 4 a.m.
Which private airport is closest to Hampton Bays?
Gabreski (FOK) in Westhampton, about 15 to 20 minutes west along Sunrise Highway. It has a 9,000-foot runway and one FBO on the field. East Hampton Airport (HTO) is 35 to 45 minutes east. We track the tail number and wait at whichever FBO you land at.
Do you pick up at the marinas and on Dune Road?
Yes. The Canal marinas, Shinnecock Bay and the Dune Road restaurants and beach lots are regular pickups. Tell us the marina and slip or the restaurant and we wait where you can see the car. The Ponquogue Bridge is the only link to Dune Road, so we allow for it in summer.
How far is Hampton Bays from Manhattan by car?
About two and a quarter to two and three quarter hours outside of traffic to Midtown through the Queens-Midtown Tunnel. Late evening and early morning run to the quick end; summer Friday and Sunday afternoons run well past the slow end. We confirm the door-to-door price in writing.
