Montauk Car Service to the Airports and the City

Montauk is the end of Long Island, about 118 miles east of New York City, with the ocean on one side, Block Island Sound on the other and the lighthouse at the point. The hamlet stretches from the Napeague strip to Montauk Point State Park: the docks on Lake Montauk, the surf at Ditch Plains, Hither Hills and Camp Hero, the motels on the Old Montauk Highway and the LIRR station where the line ends. It belongs to the Town of East Hampton and sits a full half hour beyond East Hampton Village.

One Road in, One Road Out
Montauk Highway (Route 27) across Napeague is the only road, and Old Montauk Highway is the scenic loop through Hither Hills. When Route 27 is blocked there is no alternative, so for flights we leave Montauk with more margin than any other village.
Pickup Spots
The Montauk LIRR station on Edgemere Street, the Plaza in the center of the hamlet, the docks on West Lake Drive, Ditch Plains, the Point, and the hotels along the Old Montauk Highway and on the harbor. For a house we come to the door; for the beach we wait at the lot.
Summer Rhythm
Friday evening fills Route 27 eastbound; Sunday afternoon and Labor Day Monday empty it westbound. Early mornings are calm, which is why the 2 to 4 a.m. airport runs from Montauk are often the smoothest drives of the week.
Airports From the End of the Island
JFK about three hours, LGA similar, EWR about three and a half, ISP about two. For a private flight, MTP takes light aircraft in season and HTO takes jets; FOK in Westhampton is about an hour and a quarter.

How early should we leave Montauk for a 7 a.m. JFK departure?

We collect around 2:30 to 3 a.m. The drive is about three hours outside of traffic and that early it usually runs to the quick end, which still leaves time at the terminal for check-in and security. Later in the morning the trade parade on Route 27 and County Road 39 adds time, so a 10 a.m. flight needs an earlier relative start than a 7 a.m. one.

Is it worth flying private into Montauk instead of East Hampton?

Montauk Airport (MTP) is small, seasonal and suited to light aircraft and helicopters; it is five to ten minutes from the hamlet. Jets land at East Hampton Airport (HTO) in Wainscott, 35 to 45 minutes away. We meet either field and will tell you the ground time for each so your flight department can choose.

Can you pick up at the Montauk train station?

Yes. The station on Edgemere Street is the last stop on the LIRR Montauk Branch. We meet the train at the curb with a name card if you wish, track the arrival time, and load the luggage. Summer weekend trains arrive full, so tell us the car you are in and we find you quickly.

Do you drive from Montauk to Manhattan at night?

Yes, 24 hours. A late dinner in Montauk and a return to Midtown is about three and a quarter to three and three quarter hours after midnight, with no traffic to speak of. The car is a luxury SUV; passengers sleep or work and arrive at the door.

Do you handle group weekends in Montauk?
