How Early to Book a Car to JFK From the Hamptons

When to reserve, what time to leave, and what changes for a 6:00 a.m. departure. A plain guide to airport car service from the Hamptons to JFK and LGA.

A car to the airport is the one part of a trip that cannot be late. From the Hamptons, the drive to JFK is long enough that the hour you leave decides the day. This guide covers when to reserve, how the pickup time is set, and what to send so the written confirmation is right the first time.

Reserve as Soon as the Flight Is Booked

The best time to reserve a car is the day the ticket is bought. Summer weekends, holiday Fridays and early-morning departures fill first, and a reservation made weeks ahead costs nothing extra. If the flight changes, the reservation changes with it; a written confirmation is easier to adjust than to create late the evening before a flight.

How the Pickup Time Is Set

We work backward from the flight. The time you need to be at the terminal, the drive at that hour, and a margin for the Long Island Expressway decide the pickup. For a 6:00 a.m. international departure from Southampton, that usually means a chauffeur in the driveway between 2:30 and 3:00 a.m. The exact time is in your written confirmation, the chauffeur’s name and number arrive about 6 to 8 hours before pickup, and the chauffeur is there before it.

Early Departures Are Ordinary Reservations

East End Lux operates 24 hours a day. A 3:00 a.m. pickup is not a special request; it is scheduled, confirmed and staffed like a 3:00 p.m. one. If a past service has left you waiting at that hour, this is the part worth asking any company about before you book.

Commercial Airports and Private Aviation

We serve JFK, LaGuardia, Newark and Islip, and the private aviation airports at Westhampton (FOK), East Hampton (HTO), Montauk (MTP), Farmingdale (FRG), Teterboro (TEB) and Westchester County Airport in White Plains (HPN), where private flights are met at the FBO. For a private flight, give us the FBO name and the wheels-up time; the chauffeur meets you at the FBO door and the luggage goes straight from the car.

What to Send When You Book

The flight number, the pickup address, the number of passengers and bags, and a phone number the chauffeur can reach on the morning. If an assistant is booking, add the passenger’s name. You receive a written quote, then a confirmation with the pickup time, to keep or forward.
